Fat

I watched Jamie Oliver in the week, when he was talking about junk food and examining the diets of various people. Most were really overweight and existed on a diet of crap - crisps, chocolate, cheese, chips and pizza. There was even a vegetarian who didn't eat fruit or veg (wtf?) There was another prog in the week which looked at 3 people who claimed that they couldn't lose weight. One woman blamed her low metabolism - but you had to chuckle when she admitted to eating 3 cream cakes for dinner. She thought that her regular belly dancing class would counteract it?! There was another who blamed her thyroid, but when it was checked doctors said that the main reason for her weight was the constant snacking! Lastly, a guy who claimed to have the "fat gene" and guess what, no such gene was present!

It all smacks of excuses. Losing weight is really quite simple - eat less, exercise more. All this crap about low carbs, low sugar, not eating after 5pm etc is just rubbish. It's a simple equation. Some people undoubtedly have a propensity to put on weight. I have slim parents and seem to have inherited that. Yet I also grew up watching them prepare healthy food and exercising. I'm also "lucky" that when stressed I can't eat, rather than some people who comfort eat. I guess the point of this rant is that I was shocked at the amount of junk that people shovel away and their surprise that they are obese in many cases. It ain't rocket science.

(I should add that some people do have the fat gene and sometimes thyroid and other conditions cause weight gain. But in many case, it's an excuse).
